Winemaker's Notes
Our Select Late Harvest White Riesling is a rich yellow color with golden hues. Aromas of apricot,
peaches and nectarines mingle with a hint of woodruff flower. These pleasing aromatics carry through
to the palate which is just full of apricot and rich, fresh, ripe peach. The finish is fruity, crisp and
clean – a perfect ending.
Simply put, Arrowood 2004 Select Late Harvest White Riesling is a gorgeous wine that parallels the
great Beerenauslese style wines of Germany. The grapes used to produce this lovely dessert wine
came from Hoot Owl Creek Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. These grapes were
affected by Botrytis cinerea, sometimes referred to as the “Noble Rot.” The Botrytis mold dehydrates
the berries and concentrates their sugar content while maintaining a level of acidity that balances out
the residual sugar in the finished wine.
Although this wine will continue to age and improve over the years, it can certainly be enjoyed now
with desserts such as peach and apricot cobbler or crème brulee. It is also a lovely wine to accompany
an assortment of mild cheeses, and a special delight all on its own!
