2006 Arrowood Malbec, Sonoma Valley, Arrowood Estate Vineyard

Wine Label Tasting Notes
The color is dark - Very dark. There are aromas of fresh dark berries, spice and toasted oak in the nose that carry over to the palete. This is a deep, rich, fruit-forward wine, with a slightly savory acidity. The finish is long with accents of mint. This wine drinks beautifully now and also has the potential to age gracefully.

About The Wine
Malbec came to California from France, where it serves as a minor blending component in Bordeaux and the workhorse of the Cahors appellation. Malbec continues to achieve fame in Argentina. It thrives in the high-altitude vineyards along the eastern foothills of the Andes. This is Argentina's signature grape.

Our 2006 Malbec comes from Arrowood Estate in the Sonoma Valley. When we initially planted Malbec on our estate in 1986, little of this relatively unknown variety was grown in California. Our intent was to include a small amount in our bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon. But something happened on the way to the blending tank. The wine was so deep, concentrated and luscious that we felt it needed to stand on its own. In 1992, Arrowood became one of the few wineries in North America to produce a 100% Malbec.

Ideal conditions in Sonoma Valley at harvest allowed our Malbec to stay on the vine until the grapes achieved perfect maturity resulting in a wine that shows great balance, structure, and flavors. Simply put, our 2006 Malbec is a lovely wine. This elegant wine is surprisingly versatile and pairs well with many different foods. Enjoy it with your favorite pasta with tomato, meat, or pesto sauce and with Mexican food, pizza, hamburgers, roasted poultry, and grilled halibut or swordfish.
