Tasting Notes
A tough word to pronounce and not easy to spell, however, it is easy to recognize by its exotic bouquet and intense flavor. The nose bursts with fragrant aromas of orange blossom, rose petal and tropical lychee. On the palate, the wine is dry; there are layers of ripe fruit and spice that are balanced with crisp acidity and a lengthy finish.

About The Wine
The 2008 vintage marks our eighth release of Gewürztraminers from Saralee's Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. This variety has been associated with the Alsace region of France since the Middle Ages, and is still one the areas most widely planted and highly prized grape varieties. While California Gewürztraminers can often be dull or neutral, or bring forth an oily component, Richard Arrowood has once again shown how the right combination of climate, soil and winemaking technique can produce a delicious wine of exceptional complexity and character.

In Richard Arrowood's opinion, dry Gewürztraminers are the best. They are more flavorful and age much better than those with residual sugar. While barrel aging and malolactic fermentation make for a softer, earlier dinking wine, in Richard's opinion, those techniques simply mask the wine's varietal characteristics. The nice thing about dry Gewürztraminer is that it's incredibly approachable early on but can also stand up to some significant cellar time.

Richard once commented how he has always loved Alsatian wines. We are glad the love affair continues! We hope we have made a few new Gewürztraminer fans along the way.
