Winemaker's Notes
Most people can't even pronounce the word Gewürztraminer. But here at Arrowood, it's a common name and gaining even more momentum with the 2006 vintage of Arrowood Gewürztraminer from Saralee's Vineyard in the Russian River Valley.
There are several "styles" in which Gewürztraminer is produced. Richard Arrowood's passion for Alasation wines is what inspired the dry-style of this lovely wine. Alsace is a region of France rich in wine history dating clear back to the Middle Ages. This region is located along the Rhine River, and was annexed by Germany after the Franco-Prussian War in 1871, and returned to France by the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Some of the worlds very finest Gewürztraminer is grown there, and we find that the cool growing region of Russian River Valley, here in "The New World," yields these same grapes equally as fine.
Arrowood 2006 Gewürztraminer has plenty of aromatics to capture your attention right from the start. Fragrant aromas of spiced apple and lychee nut tantalize, and layers of rich, full-bodied textures take you to delicate rose petal, citrus blossom and spice flavors. This wine is a perfect foil for springtime and warmer weather. Pair it with light salads, cold lobster or crab, or prosciutto and melon, or enjoy it on its own out on the patio.
