Winemaker's Notes
This Reserve Chardonnay makes an outstanding first impression. Refined aromas of pineapple, peach, and pear mingle with toasty oak in the nose. The wine has a rich, luscious mouthfeel, creamy tropical fruit highlights, toasty oak, and a round, polished finish. Its impeccable balance can both complement and contrast with a wide range of foods.
Réserve Spéciale is our highest designation. It is used sparingly, in superb vintages only, for wines that stand out for their intensity, concentration, balance and complexity. It represents the pinnacle of winemaking at Arrowood, the crème de la crème of our cellar.
Forward fruit, crisp acids, and rich, layered textures…our 2007 Reserve Chardonnay exhibits all these wonderful characteristics and more. The fruit for this wine comes from select vineyards located in the Sonoma-Los Carneros and Russian River Valley viticultural areas of Sonoma County. Both provide the cool climate ideal for growing Chardonnay. Each vineyard reflects its distinct terroir and contributes different nuances and characteristics to the wine.
The winemaking regime for our Reserve Chardonnay is similar to that for our other Chardonnays. All lots are fermented separately in French oak barrels and aged sur lie (on the yeast) for six months. A few select barrels that exhibit extraordinary character and personality are then blended together and returned to barrel for another five months of aging in French oak. Réserve Spéciale is our highest designation.
