Winemaker's Notes
This style of wine can essentially be made only from fruit concentrated by natures natural sugar- maker, the mold botrytis cinerea. When it occurs at the right point in time, this Noble Rot can turn a Riesling grape into a vehicle to yield some of the earths most precious nectar. Such is the case with our 2000 Special Select Late Harvest White Riesling from Hoot Owl Creek Vineyards in the Alexander Valley. This Trockenbeerenauslese style wine is the kind of late harvest wine that can only be produced in exceptional years in California. It will age for many, many years to come, but do not hesitate to try it now with a nice warm bread pudding, fresh berries, or even a Gorgonzola cheese.

Vintage
The 2000 vintage is rich and complex with lush apricot, peach and pear nuances in the nose and a balanced cornucopia of fruit and honeysuckle flavors on the finish.

Vineyard
The near perfect growing conditions for botrytis cinereacool, misty mornings, hot afternoons and warm nights brought the sugars up to a very generous 37.3 Brix at harvest.

Fermentation & Aging
The Hoot Owl Creek White Riesling was fermented in stainless steel to preserve the intense aromatics. None of the wine underwent secondary malolactic fermentation because of our desire to retain the naturally high acidity for balance.
