Winemaker's Notes
Each year at Arrowood, we strive to improve upon the previous vintage. Sometimes Mother Nature works with us to achieve that goal, and sometimes not. Fortunately, she was on our side in 2001, providing us with incredibly intense and flavorful fruit. The 2001 Viognier from Saralee's Vineyard in Russian River Valley exemplifies this standout vintage. The growing season got off to a rough start, however. A dry winter, cold spring and exceptionally hot temperatures in May and June had us quite nervous. Fortunately, August brought milder temperatures that continued through harvest, extending hang time and allowing the fruit to fully develop, with balanced, uniform flavors, sugars and acids. In the glass, this wine is a steely, golden-green color. Intense, perfumed aromas of honeysuckle, orange blossom and lychee nut marry with fresh, citrus flavors and a hint of jasmine in this seductive, full-bodied wine. The aromas and flavors are so rich and concentrated it tastes almost sweet, although its actually bone dry. Five months in seasoned French oak barrels gives it a luscious texture with just a subtle touch of oak. A lingering finish ensures this wine will be remembered for its intense floral and citrus flavors long after the last drop has been drunk.

Chef's Suggestions
Viognier complements a wide variety of foods. Try it with poultry or seafood seasoned with tarragon, basil, fennel even Cajun spices. Its great with most Thai dishes, or even a simple seared pepper crusted tuna steak.
