Winemaker's Notes
This debut offering of Arrowood Sonoma Valley Syrah represents the first time we have produced Syrah from predominately Sonoma Valley vineyards. This, our premier Sonoma Valley Syrah, is a complex and alluring blend of a combination of several different vineyards.
This wine makes a great first impression. Bold aromas of sweet, ripe fruit give you a hint of whats to come. Assertive flavors of dark fruit, anise and ground coffee commingle with plump, ripe tannins and pronounced oak. In the mouth, a nicely sculpted, textural quality is followed by a long, lengthy finish. While drinkable now, this gutsy wine will continue to age gracefully and provide years of drinking enjoyment.
Vineyard
Sonoma Valley, romantically known as the Valley of the Moon, encompasses 24-miles bordering Sonoma County's Carneros District to the south, Sonoma Mountain to the west and the Mayacamas mountains to the east. The Valleys moderate temperatures are a result of its proximity to San Pablo Bay, resulting in predominant afternoon winds and summer fog that creeps into the vineyards at night. This ideal climate, together with a wide variety of soil types, allows many different grape varieties to thrive there. Syrah is one such variety.
