Merlot Sonoma County
Region/Origin:
Sonoma County Residual Sugar: Dry
Total Acid: .510g per 100ml Alcohol: 14.1% Final pH: 3.7 Blend: 88% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc
Winemaker's Notes
Blended with about 12 percent Cabernet Franc to enhance its aromatic profile, this Merlot is a robust, long-lasting wine with bright fruit and balanced tannins. Even in its youth it offers a rich, flavorful bounty of fruit. Lay it down for a few years and you should be rewarded by how it ages and how its fruitiness will mature and integrate.
Vintage
We're excited to report that this is one of the best Merlots we have produced in the 90s. We believe that it equals the 95 vintage and may rival the 94 Merlot, the latter of which was simply the most spectacular of the decade. To paraphrase Winemaster Richard Arrowood, the 97 Merlot looks to be a knockout!
Fermentation & Aging
Each component of the blend was aged separately in French and American oak barrels for nearly two years, then blended prior to bottling. The wine was neither fined nor filtered.
