Winemaker's Notes
We feel that Sonoma County produces some of Californias finest Merlotpacked with enough fruit and balanced tannins to create rich, full-bodied, dynamic wines.
The primary focus of our Grand Archer Merlot is deep, ruby red fruit, and lots of it. In the nose one finds forward aromas of cassis and strawberry and blackberry jam, plus subtle background notes of tobacco leaf and saddle leather. On the palate, you will discover rich, concentrated flavors of blackberry, cherries and plums, with a slight spice and a toasty oak finish. The wine was aged for 14 months in French and American oak barrels to concentrate and integrate the berry flavors and to add nuances of spice, cedar and vanilla. A fleshy mouthfeel gives the wine even more sensory depth.
Vineyard
Arrowood Grand Archer 1999 Merlot is made from grapes grown primarily in the Sonoma, Alexander and Russian River Valleys of Sonoma County. We blended our Grand Archer Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and to enhance the wines aromatic profile and add more focused fruit to the finished wine. This approach reflects the winemaking style we apply to our Arrowood Reserve Merlots.

This wine will pair well with a grilled flank steak, or spring lamb. Enjoy it on its own, or with a classic Brie cheese.
