Winemaker's Notes
We are extremely proud of our 2000 Alary Vineyards Chardonnay from the cool Russian River Valley, as it is the first year we have collaborated with our good friends, Larry and Wanda Alary, to produce this delightful vineyard designated Chardonnay. The Alary family has been providing fruit to Richard Arrowood throughout almost two decades, and has played a large role in Arrowood Winerys success. We made this wine to honor them and the exceptional quality fruit they have shared with us over the years. The fruit for this wine comes from relatively young six-year-old vines that are just now beginning to come into maturity. Over two-thirds of the fruit we use is planted to the famous Dijon clone, widely recognized for the tremendous amount of aromatic fruit it provides. This wine is no exception. Effusive aromas of honeydew melon, pear and peach hint at the complex flavors to follow. On the palate, those same flavors mingle with honeysuckle, vanilla and toasty oak while crisp acids and a long, lingering finish of clove, cinnamon and toasty oak complete the picture. As is the case with our Reserve Chardonnay, we initially aged the wine for nine months in French oak barrels. We then selected and blended choice lots from the Alary Vineyards and aged it for an additional four months before bottling. We chose to not polish filter this wine, leaving it in as natural a state as possible. Only 243 cases produced.
