Winemaker's Notes
Richard Arrowood loves Rôhne style wines for their delicious flavors, approachability and food-friendly nature. That's why, as the Rôhne varieties planted in our beloved Saralee's Vineyard have matured, we have taken the opportunity to create this traditional Rôhne blend.
The 2001 Côte de Lune Blanc, our second vintage of this wine, is an absolute stunner. The growing season produced Rousanne, Marsanne and Viognier grapes with intense color, honeyed aromas and fruit flavors that are beautifully showcased in the wine. The nose is particularly complex, with mouth-watering aromas of fresh pineapple and hints of butterscotch, coconut and jasmine in the background. On the palate, the weighty flavors carry through from the nose, ending with a rich, butterscotch finish.
Following our traditional non-interventional approach, this wine was aged in seasoned French oak barrels, to impart subtle oak nuances without overpowering the wines true varietal characteristics, and was not fined prior to bottling. A Chardonnay want-to-be this wine is not. Excellent with Asian dishes, grilled fish with spicy fruit salsa, or a simple dish of prosciutto and melon, this wine will complement any occasion or gathering. We recommend enjoying sooner than later to fully appreciate its perfumed aromas and fresh fruit flavors.
